Aurora Borealis - February 2012
It was a real hit and miss prediction from the Geophysical Institute as far as seeing the Aurora from Calgary was concerned, first it was on, then it was off before finally we were told it may appear but would be moving North to Edmonton very early in the evening. I thought we were going to miss it until 8pm when I went out on the balcony and saw this ......
I called to Sarah and we grabbed our shoes and coats and rushed out into the garden with camera and tripod in hand
It was strange that as I called to Sarah and we clattered down the balcony steps to the garden 2 huge jack rabbits were hopping around and simply looked at us before returning to their hopping in search of food
So Sarah, me and the jack rabbits spent 30 minutes watching one of natures greatest shows right from our own back yard
it is strange to finally achieve an ambition you never actually thought would come to fruition
The photo's have quite a lot of noise due to the long exposures and the age of the cameras (new ones have much better noise reduction capabilities) but nothing could come close to capturing our excitement in those 30 minutes, what an incredible evening.
