Coyote Not So Ugly
I was watching TV at 09:00 this morning (waiting for a delivery ) and found an interesting programme about Taylor Mitchell who was attacked and killed by Coyotes whilst hiking the Skyline Trail in Cape Bretton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia in 2009, as the adverts came on I turned to look out of the window and there he was, right outside the house. I jumped up and ran into the spare room and grabbed my camera, running back through the house changing settings and removing the lens cap as I did - so hands free hurried photos is my excuse, (the black line is our balcony)
as he made off toward the pine forest behind the house I thought I'd missed the opportunity to grab a good shot
then at the edge of the woods he just turned and stared at me for a split second
almost immediately he turned back
and a couple of seconds later, he was gone
This is the second time he has sneaked past my back yard and I still haven't 'captured' him on camera....but my time will come, there are a thousand huge jackrabbits around the house and he'll be back for some more I think. I went out on the balcony to see if I could see over the ridge where he went and I noticed these
Jack-rabbit prints right across the balcony, past the door and along to our bedroom door
that may not seem too extraordinary but he had to climb the stairs
to give it some context here is a wider view of the rear of the house....jack-rabbits round here ...if you don't leave them carrots they'll come a knocking
