Elbow Falls
With the sun beating down we thought we would take a little run out to a local waterfall close to Calgary and have a picnic, it may not be the largest waterfall in the world but it is a lovely afternoon out in 'the wild' for little Ethan
there is a nice, well maintained short trail from the car park to the falls where a series of pathways and steps take you around the various viewing platforms
some people feel the need to climb over the railings and go to the falls themselves at various locations to pose for pictures ;)
and some people feel the need to climb over the railing to get a better place to take photos from....such are the joys of a midweek, out of season visit
I have no idea where he gets it from.....well when I did such things kids were more sturdy.....it was expected....needed to prove you dare do things........ or something.......anyway, damn kids today :)
it is a beautiful location in the foothills with a paddling area, cave, waterfalls and picnic tables. What more could a family want.
though we have Ethan in his pushchair (stroller) don't make the mistake of thinking this is a disability friendly area, there are a lot of steps where we had to carry the pushchair.
what chance does little Ethan stand, first his Dad jumps the railings, then his grandad, now his mum and dad together........no doubt when he's older they'll say "I don't know where he gets it from"
even grandma was going to get in on the act until she cracked her knee on the metal safety barrier and gave it up as a bad job, or so she says. Personally I think she just wanted Ethan to herself.
getting down to the falls does allow me to get some nice shots of the cool blue water as it pours over the falls.
downstream a nice little canyon winds through the rocks and away toward the small town of Bragg Creek
how come grandad has to carry the picnic....wearing out the old 'uns first I guess
the picnic seemed to be a success with little Ethan wearing grandads sunglasses to complete the Noel Gallagher look while eating his own weight in grapes, cheese, bread and crisps...in fact just about anything he could get his hands on
a couple of minutes of dropping stones into the river and watching the ripples provided some post picnic entertainment
we took the circular woodland trail back to the car park with Ethan finding pine cones a plenty to collect on the way, whilst waiting for grandma at the washrooms grandad made a less than impressive snowman from the remnants of winter
one final stop off at Bragg Creek on the way home so we could get ice cream, the perfect end to a wonderful afternoon
