Portobello Road
So much more than just another London street, Portobello Road in the Notting Hill area is a magnet for people of all ages and all persuasions. Perhaps most reknown for being one of the 'notable' street markets in London it has much more to offer. There's always good food, bespoke clothing from top notch stores and unique items from dozens of independent traders as well as long established wonders like 'Alices' where all those things you didn't know you wanted are waiting in claustrophobic corners of of this crazy little store.
On Saturday mornings the street holds the UK's largest antique market stretching for about a kilometre on both sides of the road. If you go on a Saturday it will be packed but the experience is one to remember. The rest of the week there's fresh fruit markets and a second hand clothing market at the northern end of the street and the usual stores that are seemingly always open. If I am in London for any more than a couple of days then I'll be spending a few hours walking Portobello Road no matter what day it is, and usually I'll come back with something I didn't even know I wanted!!
