Sunfest, Bartlesville
Bartlesville, Oklahoma is a great family friendly place to live and the city works hard at providing events and entertainment for families throughout the year. 'Sunfest' is one such event, held in 'Sooner Park' on June 8th 2008 it was very similar to a craft fair in the UK.
Entry was free and we made the short journey down there by walking along the 'Pathfinder Parkway' footpath away from traffic. On approach the sponsors banners were out in force.
there was a good turnout and plenty of food stalls to meet the needs of most palates
though I have to say when it comes to 'corn dogs' I have to draw the line, those things taste disgusting, kind of like a really cheap hot dog sausage wrapped in a cross between bread and sponge cake, the whole thing is then battered and fried.
the stall selling wooden roses seemed to be doing a roaring trade
Sarah didn't take long to get amongst the stalls in the hope of finding a shoe vendor, or at the very least a jeweler
this display of hand made flowers was accompanied by a lady demonstrating how they are made
constructed from clay each one is painstakingly manipulated and painted singularly.
there are stalls of all kinds spread out around the park but as yet Sarah has resisted the urge to buy andything.
Some unusual displays include the 'Bartlesville Southern Faith Riders' which I can only assume is some sort of heavens angels as opposed to the more usual sort.
I always assumed that 'Fried Green Tomatoes' was just a film title until I saw this, and yes, they do taste very good
Though I am often seen scoffing down pickles (gherkins) I've never thought of them as a frozen popsicle ..... didn't try them though so cant say whether they are good or not.
A small stage allowed a number of groups to come and go during the day providing varying entertainment styles and a seat to the left under the shade of the trees was much sought after as the afternoon heated up.
back to the stalls and the variety continues with some colourful canvases, hand painted of course.
jewels too (at last says Sarah) though after a long perusal there is still no purchase made
Tie-dye T-Shirts.....very 70's I'm sure, whilst they add a splash of colour, its a bit too much colour for us Brits.
We had a nice, pleasant afternoon out at Sunfest, and it turned out to be very much like our UK 'Craft Fairs' in as much as we walked round for several hours and went home without buying anything!!!
