The Dock of the Bay - Elizabeth City - North Carolina
We started out from our hotel in Elizabeth City heading east toward the coast, but we weren't travelling long at all before we saw this jetty beside the Camden Causeway and decided to stop and explore it before continuing.
All of the branches of the nearby trees were hung with bits of fishing tackle lost during casting so it's pretty safe to say that this is a local fishing spot.
There were no fishermen this morning and the water of the Pasquotank River was a flat as a millpond, the river flows into Albemarle Sound before making its way into the North Atlantic Ocean
The jetty is laid out in a 'T' shape with another smaller 'T' protruding from it. At either end of the longer 'T' are small bandstand like shelters. Behind this one is the east side of Elizabeth City
The morning sun reflected up from the lapping water of the river and bounced around on the inside of the shelter as we stood watching an eagle trying to catch his breakfast, the fish seemed to be trying to help by splashing out on top every now and again.
Looking out toward Hospital Point and Albemarle Sound provided this beautiful image of the shelter in the still calm waters, the two poles sticking out from the water were also covered in bits of fishing tackle.
I'm glad we decided to stop here and take a moment by the calm water, even if we had only just set off en route to the coast, it was nice to spend a few moments 'sitting on the dock of the bay' at Elizabeth City.
