Date Walked: 25th March 2011

Actual Ascent: 741 ft (226m)
Time Taken: 2 hours
Looking for a quick walk this afternoon, WH pointed me toward 'Cairn Mon Earn' - close to home and not too time consuming....ideal.
The parking is good for up to 6 vehicles then it's straight on to the logging track
Within a very short time you are high enough for some nice views over deeside
Saw my first frog and frogspwan of the year in a small pool beside the track
Rising further the views continue to improve
The first view of the summit is a little........uninspiring
With all that logging the track is nowhere near the woodland walk you would imagine from the OS map...
The open space is quite enjoyable and the spring greens are beginning to show
The entire track remains in great condition throughout and would be a good MTB ride I suspect - if a little short
Rounding a turn and were almost at the summit
And there it is, towers a-plenty
From the trig point I can see a shower over the north sea beyond Stonehaven
It's a mild celebration for the third hill this week.
Great views to be had from the summit
Across a short trail through the heather to a small cairn and fine looking bench. The views are fantastic and I can see the rain falling in several places across the horizon, time for a cuppa.
Back down along the same route
The summit and logging trail in one...just
During a shower I sheltered under a tree and glanced into a deep pool at the side of the track.....what the hell is that, it's alive.......oh a newt just coming round from hibernation.
In all, this is a great short walk with a hardly noticeably rise to a summit with excellent views, a fine end to a great week for me.
