Canmore
Canmore is a beautiful little mountain village 20km South East of Banff. We took Mark, Hayley and Ethan there to see the sights and enjoy the mountain a little more, it was t-shirt weather once again.
The stunning vistas greet you as soon as you exit the car park and turn toward the main street.
the entire village is dwarfed by the surrounding mountains, no matter which direction you turn you are greeted by sheer walls of rock dominating the skyline.
when we first moved to Calgary we came here and called Mark and Hayley from the main street and told them to put the 'Downtown Canmore Webcam on' which streams a live feed over the internet which refreshes every 30 seconds. Now it was Marks turn to call his mum and do the same, we all stood on the street corner with our arms raised for 30 seconds, laughing as we did.
from every angle this village is beautiful and better still it only has a limited number of shops to trail around ;)
there are some great hikes around Canmore that I have not been able to get to because of snow coverage but just a few more weeks and I believe I'll be able to wander the mountains around here
we sat out under the shade of a large fir tree having lunch and listening to music from the restaurant speakers when 'Someone like you' by Adele came on, suddenly Ethan started singing (not the words just some cute noises) and swaying in his seat. It was so cute it registered a 9.7 on the cuteness scale. Kudos to Grandma for taking this shot of us all awaiting lunch.
this shot is taken from across the street showing where we sat having lunch, the name of the place is 'The Wood' if you can find the main street you will find this place on the corner, it is a spectacular lunch spot an has great food.
the views are ever present and leave you repeatedly saying wow as you walk the streets.
making sure we don't miss any of the stores we head back up the main street to a kids shoe shop where Ethan is kitted out with new shoes.
so after another lovely day in the mountains we head back toward the car park with full bellies and smiling faces
even from the car park the views continue, stretching away to the far horizon, Sarah and I came here in winter and thought it was stunning but in spring it is even better, we'll perhaps not leave it so long before we return to this lovely little village again.
