Canyonlands National Park - Utah
This visit was a quick couple of hours look around in a place that deserved much more time than I had. I left it late in the day before entering the park and still had many miles to travel that evening, I knew as soon as I started down the entrance road that I wanted to stay longer.
I stopped soon after entering the park for a stretch of the legs in the stunning desert scene.
I walked about a mile or so along a small ridge line overlooking an expanse of desert and some distant sandstone cliffs.
then it was back to the truck and deeper into the park along the snaking highway
I stopped off at a number of canyons and hoodoos as I drove through the main route in the park, the further I travelled the more obvious it became that I would be missing a lot of this stunning location on this visit.
I did ensure I left my mark on the area (in a non damaging way) by building a small cairn under a canyon side overhang.
A couple of hours flew by and I had to get going knowing I was missing too much to be satisfied with this visit, maybe I'll find my way back and check to see if my cairn is still there.
The Park exit road leading through those towering cliffs was spectacular and felt all the more so for having the place to myself.
