Cochrane Labour Day Parade
Labour Day is a great tradition in both Canada and the US, it originally gave workers an opportunity to campaign for better pay or working conditions so parades were commonplace. In modern day Canada the Labour Day Parade is more about family fun and a close to the 'long weekend' and sadly, an end to 'summer'. The Parades are held on the first Monday in September and children return to school the day after. Very often it is also a time for the chilly mornings of autumn to return bringing suggestions of the winter to come. In 2016 Sarah and I attended the Labour Day Parade in our home town of Cochrane and we were genuinely surprised by the huge turnout and the quality of the parade itself.
The parade route covers a good portion of the town and includes the historic 1st street SW where I was able to set up opposite the Rockyview Hotel to make a nice backdrop for the shots. It was a really enjoyable couple of hours in the autumnal sunshine, afterwards we headed to the coffee shop and waited for traffic to die down before returning home.
