Glass Mountain, Oklahoma
Glass Mountain (or Gloss Mountain) is located close to Fairview in the North West of Oklahoma. The mountain is a State Park and has been known as both Glass and Gloss Mountains since cartographers used both names in error years ago. Another sunny day in January 2008 saw Sarah and I exploring the west of the state when we came across these hills.
We stopped in the small parking area and read the history of the place on nearby information boards before selecting a route to the top
once up close it is easy to see how the mountains got their name as they are covered in Selenite crystals that reflect the sunlight and 'twinkle' as you walk past.
any excuse for a rest as we begin the ascent
soon we are looking down on the car park and picnic shelters from up high
even with all this winter sunshine, and after climbing the hill Sarah still needs the gloves on
further around the ridge I do my best to look windswept and interesting
after a 30 minute wander around up top we set off down a dodgy pathway with a handrail
once down I grabbed a few more shots of the area including this one which has become one of my favourites from our time in the states.
