Houston, The City
Houston was never going to be ideal for Sarah and I, the heat and humidity is pretty awful for people unaccustomed to such things, its all relative I know but for us it was almost unbearable in summer and tolerable in winter. Though there are huge savings to be had in clothing, all you ever need is T-shirt and shorts (or skirt) even in winter.
This shot was taken on the shuttle at George Bush Airport on the day we arrived in America.
The city has a good mix of the old and new, the boom for the city which brought all the new building and prosperity was not the oil sector, that had existed for some time but the heat of a Houston summer kept companies further North. Only in 1950 with the invention of air conditioning did many companies relocate to Houston.
One thing you do have to admire about Downtown Houston, it is very clean, there is no litter at all which is fantastic for such a large city.

the city also has some great parks and open spaces as well as a number of old (by American standards) buildings
We used to walk from the house into George Bush Park (is everything named after that guy) when the temperature had eased off in the evening, often taking a fishing rod and exploring the narrow drainage channel that ran through there
and of course, just South of the city is the world famous Houston Space Center where you can literally 'touch the moon'
Houston is a great city and we made the most of our time there (as always) but in truth it was too damn hot most of the time and the humidity was chronic. When the time came to move on we were both happy to do so. I saved my best shot of Houston till last, an autumnal shot of picturesque downtown.
