The Isle of Skye
In November 2010 we decided to take ourselves off for a short break on the Isle of Skye, so we loaded up and headed out in that direction. We first stopped off at a hotel in the Kyle of Lochalsh which turned out to be closed, at the next hotel on Skye there were no rooms, but eventually we found a nice place close to the harbour in Broadford just as dusk was approaching.
We dropped off our bags and took a walk out across the bridge to the harbour.
it was a beautiful evening and a young seal followed us as we walked beside the water with the sun setting beyond, couldn't ask for more really.
we were up and out early the next morning to make the most of the day finding ourselves at Kilt Rock where an impressive waterfall pours out into the sea. Click any of the small images below for larger pics.
we then decided to hike up to the 'Old Man of Storr' which is a standing pinnacle rock formation on a 650metre hill on the East side of the island. The ascent though is only about 450 metres as the route does not begin at sea level.
The next day we drove around the entire island just taking in the views and dropping in at a few locations to wander around and relax, it was a cracking, unhurried day.
On the following morning we had a leisurely breakfast before setting off on the homeward journey, again dropping in on a few places as we did, Eileen Donan Castle was the first of those stops.
this was a great unplanned weekend that went really well, as the spontaneous things always seem to
