Southwark Cathedral
Southwark Cathedral sits comfortably beside Borough Market in London, just south of the river thames it has been a place of worship for over 1000 years but classified as a cathedral for just over 100. The site is listed in the 'Doomsday Book' of 1086 under the control of William the Conquerors half brother. It was damaged by the great fire of 1212 but rebuilt during the thirteenth century. The Shard now overlooks the Cathedral gardens yet doesn't overshadow the beautiful building, in fact it adds a wonderful juxtaposition to images that capture both together.
I met the Cathedral cat on my first visit there and watched as he unsuccessfully pursued a mouse at full speed across the front of the altar step, a little later I found him sitting by the doors looking wistfully at the gardens and, no doubt, rueing the escape of his nemesis.
