State Fair, Tulsa
The annual Tulsa State Fair was just one month after our arrival in Oklahoma and made a great day out providing insight to the culture of the nation we had just joined. On entry the fair looks a lot like a fair anywhere else in the world.
I had been told much about the wonders of the 'Corn Dog' and got the opportunity to try my first one here, it was (to me) one of the worst tasting things I had ever ingested. The description would be, a cheap hot dog sausage covered in some sort of sweet cake like substance before the whole thing is deep fried, though I was in a minority of one with those thoughts.
We took a ride in the cable car to look over the whole park, it is a huge set up with tons of stalls, rides and eateries with the largest turkey legs I've ever seen.
The cake baking competition had some pretty fantastic looking cakes, it was difficult to stop Sarah from grabbing a piece.
There were plenty of fairground rides (which we avoided) and the usual eclectic mix of side stalls and displays
All in all it was a great day out and a really interesting insight into the culture, we enjoyed it ....except for that damn 'Corn Dog'
