With no family over for Christmas and no plans to fly home we decided to take an extended break in Las Vegas, more for the surrounding desert than for the chintz of Vegas. But it makes sense as everywhere is open, the sun is always shining and the flights and hotels are pretty cheap too. We made a number of trips to varying places whilst there, all were really enjoyable and made all the better because Sarah was there with me this time. Below are brief descriptions of each with links to the respective pages. Vegas Baby Vegas Needs little introduction, all the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas....I can't say much more as we all know "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"....click here for the pics and at least some of the tale. The Grand Canyon We took in a road trip to the Grand Canyon so Sarah could enjoy the incredible vista it provides, a beautifully clear day ensured she got the best of views. Click here for more. Red Rock Canyon Located just 30 minutes from Lss Vegas this made a nice little trip for Christmas Day, wonderful Joshua Trees in desert surroundings. Click here for more. The Hoover Dam The Hoover Dam is a true wonder of modern engineering and a 'must see' for people visiting Las Vegas. The new Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge makes the trip even more worthwhile now. Click here to see the true art deco beauty of the Hoover Dam. Valley of Fire State Park Located just one hour north of Las Vegas this incredible park was an unexpected gem, timing was everything and we hit it dead right. Click here to see more of the incredible rocks of fire. Route 66 Kingman AZ to Oatman AZ A beautiful scenic drive on the old route 66 from Kingman Arizona to Oatman Arizona ending with a walk around an old mining town still clinging on to existence...just. Click here to see the wild burros. Grapevine Canyon
Whilst in the small town of Oatman an old guy in the art gallery directed us to this wonderful little canyon just a few miles off the road on the way back to Las Vegas, we were so glad he did, we had a fantastic hike through some genuinely beautiful desert landscape. Wow that is an amazing trip, Oatman looks amazing and really old world. The Grand Canyon is massive, yet you bump into a lad from Sheffield !!!!!! Looks like you made the right choice to have a trip, and really made the most of it. Just remember had Sarah been near that water a little longer, she would have caught a fish!!!!!!!! Bit like seeing bears on a road trip !!!!!

Cannot believe the size of the Grand Canyon yet you bump into someone from Sheffield !!!!! Right idea to have a trip away at Xmas and you made the most of it looking at all the places you visited. remember had you not of taken Sarah away from that water, she was about to catch a fish, and suspect you will never hear the end of it!!!!!!!

We had a fantastic time mate, Oatman was my favorite I think. ...and yes, she's still going on about how I prevented her catching a fish in the desert!!

What an awesome trip, Chris! Very jealous. My girlfriend has been to several of those places and wants to go back with me and my camera at some point. By the look of things I'll need a week and several memory cards! Funny that you guys stopped at Cracker Barrel. Didn't know they had them out west. I grew up with them in the south and used to stop there every time we drove from Florida to Tennessee to see family.

Enjoyed the photos very much, and was tired out by the journey! Liked the Fire Rocks the best, wonderful effect.
